I love the pathos in this submission. The fact that the bears are almost identical and their expressions similar suggests a sameness in the two characters in this picture. I like the minor detail of the loose button eye and the stitches on the speaking bear, how the color is uniform on the left and splotchy on the right. All of these things ask so many questions. Who is the speaking bear and where has he/she been, to look all weathered and like she is on her way out again? Why is the left bear stoic, seemingly pretty-eyed, and surprised at this accusation? Why should the speaking bear expect to know the other one if he looks like he’s been away for a while? I never thought I would want to interview cartoon bears but this drawing makes me very, very intrigued. I’m curious to know what the artist’s medium is. Thanks for your submission, Katie S! Looking forward to more!
